Tom is a Doctor of Optometry and for the past 25 years he operated a private eyecare clinic in Bancroft, Ontario. He is also the main kennel help and general fixer-upper at the Bowery (sort of like Tim Allen of Home Improvement fame). He enjoys horses, dogs, hunting, fishing and travelling. Tom was the Founding President of the Association of Parson Russell Terrier Fanciers and believes in the original 'Parson Type' as now recognised by all Kennel Clubs world-wide.
Tom is sometimes Cheryl's nemesis but his input on her breeding program is significant. Their constant discussions about ideal breedings, virtues vs faults and the real breed type help to ward off "kennel blindness" which is a common ailment that can affect any breeder. With his medical background, he also helps a great deal with the science of dog breeding.
Tom was instrumental in drafting and adopting the Canadian Parson Russell Terrier Breed Standard as well as the official recognition of the breed by the Canadian Kennel Club. He has written many articles on dog breeding and on the true Parson Russell Terrier type. Tom is intimately familiar with the development of all the different varieties of the Parson Russell Terrier breed internationally.
